The recoder tools has the same goals as the former mplayercluster-plugin for VDR, but with a slightly different approach: Instead of letting the plugin do the job, a replacement for the mplayer.sh is used. This way it is possible to use all the features of the mplayer-plugin and nevertheless leave the reencoding job to another powerful machine. Every command from the plugin to the mplayer.sh replacement is sent to the server except volume changes, which are processed locally.
